Motown and More Revue Miller Outdoor Theatre

As the sun sets over Houston, the vibrant sounds of Motown will fill the air at Miller Outdoor Theatre. From May 23rd to May 25th, 2024, the highly anticipated Motown & More Revue is back for its 25th season, promising a soul-stirring celebration of R&B, soul, and funk that transcends generations.

Produced by Bacement Foundation for the Arts, this year's Dancin' In The Street event will showcase Houston's hottest talent, paying tribute to legendary artists like Aretha Franklin, Marvin Gaye, and Tina Turner. The show, which starts at 8:15 PM each evening, will transport audiences through the golden eras of the 60s, 70s, 80s, and 90s, with classic hits that have stood the test of time.

This is more than a concert—it's a journey through the heart and soul
of music history.

Motown's legacy is deeply rooted in the cultural fabric of America. Founded by Berry Gordy in Detroit, Motown Records revolutionized the music industry with its unique sound—a seamless blend of soulful rhythms and pop appeal. From the inception of his first record store to the formation of the iconic Hitsville U.S.A. studio, Gordy's vision fostered a musical empire that broke racial barriers and united listeners worldwide.

The Motown production process was famously rigorous. Every Friday morning, Gordy would hold quality control meetings, ensuring only the finest tracks were released. This dedication to excellence brought forth timeless hits like Marvin Gaye's "I Heard It Through the Grapevine" and the Temptations' "Ain't Too Proud to Beg." Holland–Dozier–Holland, the powerhouse songwriting trio, penned numerous classics for the Supremes, while other prolific writers and producers, including Smokey Robinson and Norman Whitfield, contributed to the label's success.

Motown's impact extended beyond the charts. It was a beacon of hope and unity during a time of social upheaval. The music not only entertained but also played a significant role in the racial integration of American society. As Smokey Robinson eloquently stated, Motown was not just about the sound; it was about the spirit and the people who made it happen.
