Singer-songwriter Brian McKnight for years has been turning out chart-topping and being nominated for numerous music awards. This weekend McKnight and Sebastian Mikael will be in Southwest Houston at The Arena Theatre.

One of the most consistent and enduring adult contemporary R&B artists, Brian McKnight jumped in toward the end of the new jack swing era with his platinum debut Brian McKnight (1992), and he's maintained a devoted fan base ever since, all the way through Exodus (2020), billed as his final album of all-original material. Whether writing and producing on his own or working with the likes of Diddy, the Underdogs, and Tim & Bob, McKnight has enjoyed moderate commercial success -- highlighted by four consecutive Top Ten albums for Motown -- without ever quite becoming a superstar. This, along with a down-to-earth personality and a catalog heavy on engaging and predominantly mellow material, has helped McKnight longevity. The singer holds a Grammy record for 17 nominations without a win.

He has received Soul Train Music Awards, American Music Awards and the Billboard Songwriter of the Year Award. McKnight's pop R&B hits include, “Exodus” Don’t miss “I Want U,” “Neva Get Enuf of U,” “The Only One For Me,” “One Last Cry” and many more.

His video for "Anytime" was nominated for Best Male Video at the 1998 MTV Video Music Awards.

McKnight has also found success outside of the world of music. He starred in the Broadway production of Chicago and used his vast industry knowledge as a red carpet host for Extra! TV. In addition to being a singer, songwriter, and producer, McKnight is a multi-instrumentalist who plays nine instruments including piano, guitar, bass, drums, percussions, trombone, tuba, flugelhorn and trumpet. McKnight released the album "Genesis" in 2017 through Sono Recording Group. The first single released off the album, "Forever," quickly reached the Top 25 on Billboard's Adult R&B Chart, and peaked high with radio charts all over the country.

(From flaunt.com) Sebastian Mikael is in his own lane, with his own sound and unique personality. His current stature definitely didn’t happen overnight, the R&B singer got his first taste of the music industry in 2013 but it was an unfortunate series of events that eventually clouded his focus and direction.

The now 30-year-old describes himself as “a regular kid who followed his dreams and stuck with it.” His goal has always been to inspire others to do the same in whatever medium of art they’re in — not following any one type of trajectory because it varies from person to person. The Sweden-born, Boston-raised artist returned to music in December of last year after a four-year hiatus, delivering his critically-acclaimed EP titled I C U U C ME, Pt. 1.

"Soul is the main ingredient."

From the seven-track project is lead single “Time,” a record he surprisingly considered a throwaway initially. It was the smooth, sultry visual exuding immediate 90’s energy that made all the difference, highlighting his fashion-forward style and pairing it with romance. In the end, he leaves the question up to you: is this reality or a dream?

Sebastian’s sound is soulful, alternative, and Afrofuturistic, from the style to the sound. He reiterated, “Soul is the main ingredient. It all stems from soul music but it has a new futuristic type of sound to it. It just hits differently.”

Flaunt Mag caught up with Mikael in his few days in Los Angeles, on the road opening for fellow R&B crooner Mahalia. We chatted about his upbringing in Boston, addictions, the creation of “Time,” and current goals.
