Incubus
@713 Music Hall

 Friday 1/3/2023 9:00 PM

(From All Music.com-Steve Huey) Incubus became one of the most popular alt-metal bands of the new millennium, setting themselves apart from a crowded field with a tireless touring ethic and a broad musical palette. Employing a versatile blend of heavy metal, funk, jazz, hip-hop, techno, post-grunge, and alternative rock, the band hit the mainstream in 1999 with their multi-platinum third album, Make Yourself, which featured the chart-topping single "Drive." They continued their reign over the ensuing decade, issuing a string of gold- and platinum-selling records: Morning View (2001), A Crow Left of the Murder... (2004), and Light Grenades (2006), culminating in the release of a greatest-hits LP in 2009. Incubus spent the next decade focusing on playing live but also issued two more studio albums (2011's If Not Now, When? and 2017's 8) plus a handful of singles and EPs that continued to expand their sonic oeuvre.

Incubus - Wish You Were Here

Formed in 1991 in the San Fernando Valley suburb of Calabasas, California, the band's early lineup comprised tenth-grade classmates Brandon Boyd (vocals, percussion), Mike Einziger (guitar), Alex Katunich (aka Dirk Lance; bass), and José Pasillas (drums). Their early funk-metal sound was heavily influenced by the Red Hot Chili Peppers, but broadened over the next few years to incorporate thrash, rap-metal, post-grunge rock, and grinding alt-metal à la Korn or the Deftones. By the time the musicians had graduated from high school, they had already been playing all-ages shows around Southern California on a regular basis. In 1995, Incubus added hip-hop turntablist DJ Lyfe (aka Gavin Koppel) to their lineup and recorded the independently released album Fungus Amongus. That, coupled with a strong local following, helped the band earn a deal with the Epic Records subsidiary Immortal. Read more @All Music.com (Click Here)

Rebirth Brass Band
with Nik Parr
The Selfless Lovers
@The Heights Theatre

Friday 2/3/2023 8:00 PM

Whether seen on HBO’s Treme or at their legendary Tuesday night gig at The Maple Leaf in New Orleans, La. Grammy-winning Rebirth Brass Band is a true New Orleans institution making their way to The Heights Theatre this weekend.

Rebirth formed in 1983 by the Frazier brothers, the band has since evolved from playing the streets of the French Quarter to playing festivals and stages all over the world.

While committed to upholding the tradition of brass bands, they have also extended themselves into the realms of funk and hip-hop to create their signature sound. “Rebirth can be precise whenever it wants to,” says The New York Times, “but it’s more like a party than a machine. It’s a working model of the New Orleans musical ethos: as long as everybody knows what they’re doing, anyone can cut loose.” In the wake of the sometimes-stringent competition among New Orleans brass bands, Rebirth is the undisputed leader of the pack, and they show no signs of slowing down.

Following the Grammy-winning Rebirth of New Orleans, Rebirth Brass Band is at it again with Move Your Body, an infectious, groove-laden collection of hip-shakers sure to saturate the dance floor.

Rollicking originals like "Who's Rockin, Who's Rollin'"? and "Take 'Em to the Moon" reaffirm the band's position as head of the brass throne while the rasta-esque "On My Way" and leave-nothing-to-the-imagination lyrics of "HBNS" showcase the unit's talent for penning unabashed party starters.

Do Whatcha Wanna
Live in New Orleans

Boasting a mastery of Rebirth's signature "heavy funk" sound, Move Your Body pushes and swings, leaving behind an 11 track thumbprint, approved by the Frazier brothers themselves, of a sultry Tuesday night spent dancing on their home court at the Maple Leaf Bar in New Orleans.

When you think of New Orleans, the city’s foremost flambeaux-lit traditions of Mardi Gras, Bourbon Street, voodoo, Po’ boys, beads, gumbo, and second line undoubtedly come to mind. You can also count Big Sam’s Funky Nation amongst those NOLA treasures.

Friday 1/3/2023
Doors  8:00PM

(From All Music.com.- James Christopher Monger) A Texas-born country singer/songwriter influenced by the outlaw country and neo-traditionalist stars of the 1970s and '80s, Wade Bowen emerged in the early 2000s with a Texas country/red dirt style that eventually began to incorporate elements of contemporary country, gospel, and pop/rock. A regional fixture in the early part of his career, Bowen broke into the mainstream with the release of his third LP, 2008's If We Ever Make It Home. His move to Sony imprint BNA Records in 2010 earned him an even bigger audience, leading to acclaimed outings like The Given (2012) and the Randy Rogers duet LP Hold My Beer, Vol. 1 (2015), the latter of which elicited a 2020 sequel. Bowen self-produced his next LP, 2022's Somewhere Between the Secret and the Truth.

A Guitar, A Singer and A Song (feat. Vince Gill)

Born and raised in Waco, Texas, singer/songwriter Wade Bowen started his musical career in the band West 84 with longtime friend Matt Miller. In 2001, after flirting with the idea of life outside of the music business (he graduated from Texas Tech with a public relations degree), Bowen decided to head out on his own, self-releasing his 2002 debut Try Not to Listen and playing up to 250 gigs a year. . (From Undergroudn Music.com) Raised in Liberty, Texas Jacob Stelly started his Songwriting career a few hours away in College Station while attending Texas A&M University. With his 2019 debut release University Heights, Stelly quickly began garnering a large following of fans throughout Texas and Oklahoma. Between his high energy live shows and infectious sing along melodies of the songs, Jacob Stelly is quickly becoming a name spreading amongst the Texas and Red Dirt Music Scene.
