[From All Music.com-Stephen Thomas Erlewine] Upon the release of their debut album, Yourself or Someone Like You in the fall of 1996, Matchbox Twenty was pigeonholed as one of the legions of post-grunge guitar bands that roamed the American pop scene in the middle of that decade. After "Push" climbed the charts, Yourself or Someone Like You continued to spin off singles well into 1998. By that time, the group's blend of '70s arena rock and early-'90s American alt-rock -- closer to Pearl Jam and maybe R.E.M. than Nirvana -- had become the sound of mainstream American rock. That transition slipped underneath the radar of many pop music critics and fans. Yourself or Someone Like You sold millions of copies without ever truly dominating the charts -- by 1998, it had gone platinum five times; by 2000, ten times. It didn't top the charts, but it was always around, a staple of modern rock, adult alternative, and Top 40 radio alike. Matchbox Twenty was omnipresent because they managed to blend the structure and sentiment of '70s arena rock with '90s hard rock, thereby winning a large audience by seeming simultaneously classicist and modern. After consolidating their success with 2000's Mad Season and 2002's More Than You Think You Are, the group entered an extended hiatus while its lead singer Rob Thomas pursued a solo career. They'd later reunite in 2012 for North, taking an additional 11 years to deliver Where the Light Goes.

The de facto leader of Matchbox Twenty is lead singer and songwriter Rob Thomas. An Army brat born on a military base in Germany, Thomas spent much of his childhood between his mother's house in Florida and his grandmother's place in South Carolina. The stress of constantly moving spilled over into his schoolwork, and he dropped out of high school at the age of 17.

Matt Nathanson
[From All Music.com-Marcy Donelson] California-based singer/songwriter Matt Nathanson is best known for his earnest, introspective adult alternative songs, but he's also known to fans for live stage banter that borders on standup comedy. That wit is also evident in his lyrics, be they self-conscious, longing, or playful. He released a series of independent albums beginning with 1993's Please before making his major-label debut in 2003 with his fifth LP, Beneath These Fireworks.

[From All Music.com-Marcy Donelson] Offering a buoyant variety of indie pop that stresses the pop, Cub Sport (briefly Tim Nelson & the Cub Scouts, then Cub Scouts) hail from Brisbane, Australia. With guitarist Zoe Davis, keyboardist Sam Netterfield, and drummer Dan Puusaari, the band was founded in 2010 by singer and main songwriter Tim Nelson. Nelson started piano lessons as a six-year-old and began writing songs in high school, where he met his bandmates. The title track from their 2012 debut EP, Told You So, earned Cub Sport an enthusiastic audience centered around college radio in the U.S., as well as their native Australia.

Keep Me Safe
A second EP, Paradise, appeared a year later, and tour dates and music festival appearances in North America, Europe, Asia, and Australia followed. Another EP, Only Friend, was issued in 2015 by Nettwerk, with a handful of EP tracks appearing on the band's full-length debut, This Is Our Vice, which arrived in March 2016. Cub Sport recorded their second album at Nelson's home with him in the production chair. Calling it a personal album inspired by growth, BATS was released by MGM in 2017. A year of heavy touring followed, as did the release of singles like "Sometimes" and "Summer Lover," both of which appeared on the band's eponymous third album in January 2019. By summer of the following year they had released teasers -- "Confessions", "Drive," and "I Feel Like I'm Changin'" -- for a fourth LP titled Like Nirvana. Read moren@All Music.com (Click Here)

[From All Music.com-Craig Harris] Combining the musical traditions of Cuba with American rock and jazz, Cuba-born and South Florida-based vocalist and bandleader Willy Chirino helped to create the "Miami sound" of salsa music. The composer of more than 100 songs, Chirino's material has been covered by a lengthy list of artists including Raphael, Ricardo Montaner, Rocio Jurado, Celia Cruz, Oscar D'Leon, Angela Carrasco, Jorge Muniz, and Nydia Caro. Chirino's song "Soy" has been recorded by more than 60 artists, including the Gipsy Kings, whose interpretation sold more than four million copies. Chirino also composed and performed the theme songs for Spanish-language television soap operas La Zulianita and Pobre Diabla. Chirino has received numerous awards throughout his career. He was named King of Miami's Calle Ocho Festival in 1993. Two years later, a section of NW 17th Avenue in Miami was christened Willy Chirino Way.

The Houston Symphony is Miller’s oldest performing partner with performances beginning in 1941. Lewis Brown, a Chicago transplant, wrote to the Houston Post critic Hubert Roussell advocating outdoor symphony concerts. N.D. Naman funded the first Houston Symphony concert with a $1,000 grant and an additional $800 “free-will offerings” collected from the audience. It wouldn’t be a Miller season without them!
Conductor Vinay Parameswaran leads Beethoven’s beloved Symphony No. 7, and Houston Symphony violinist Sergei Galperin dazzles with performances of Ravel’s crowd-pleasing Tzigane and Bloch’s “Nigun” from Baal Shem. The program also includes Anna Clyne’s This Midnight Hour, inspired by poetry of Charles Baudelaire and Juan Ramón Jiménez.

[From All Music.com-David Jeffries] The Southern hip-hop group Rehab were literally a product of their namesake. Original members Danny Boone and Brooks Buford, both recovering alcoholics and drug addicts, met at a local rehab facility and connected over their love of music. Mashing rap with rock, the two teamed with Steaknife (aka Denny Campbell), who had previously worked with Boone in the group Prime Suspect, and they released their debut album, Southern Discomfort, in 2000 on the Sony label. Cee-Lo, Goodie Mob, and Cody ChesnuTT were some of the guests on the album, which would spawn the Top 15 modern rock hit "It Don't Matter." Two years were spent on the road supporting the album, including a stint on the Vans Warped Tour, and then the duo splintered.

[From Scotty Austin, com] Scotty Austin isn’t your ordinary or average run-of-the-mill rock star. With a remarkable track record playing across the United States, as well as being a multi-instrumentalist in numerous genres, it is clear he has a unique perspective when it comes to creating music. Hailing from Parsons, Tennessee, his interest in various instruments started at a young age when he began reading music in kindergarten while also gaining experience in the family band at church. By the late 90s, Scotty began expanding on his knowledge of music genres and branching out to multiple styles such as percussion and classical guitar performance before earning his spot as the band leader of the official NASCAR Rolling Thunder band for an entire season. His accomplishments continued when around the early 2000s, he won fourth place in the world during the International Blues Contest while representing Memphis, Tennessee.
Shortly after, Scotty collaborated with a new original group and recording artist, Ash Bowers, along with Jason Aldean’s label, Broken Bow Records, as well as the sister label, Stoney Creek Records. It wasn’t long until Scotty decided to start his own original project, an indie rock band called Trash the Brand. He had wanted to record and play songs that he had written but never had the chance to play. Within weeks of forming, he was playing to packed houses and venues which in turn caught the attention of a few people in the music industry. Soon Scotty found himself in contact with Jeff Hanson (manager of Creed and Saving Abel), who offered to manage him. While negotiating, he asked Hanson to put him on the show with Saving Abel that was happening that weekend in Memphis. Read more @Scotty Austin.com (Click Here)
