Cody Carnes
@TheMET Church

Saturday 2/18/2023 7:30 PM

(From All Music.com-Stephen Thomas Erlewine) A worship leader and a CCM singer with a decidedly mainstream rock bent, Cody Carnes often seems to be channeling elements of Coldplay and U2 into his inspirational rock. He first started making music as part of the Dallas-based Gateway Worship before he headed out as a duet act with his wife, Kari Jobe. He launched his solo career in 2017 with The Darker the Night/The Brighter the Morning. His biggest chart success came three years later with "The Blessing," a collaboration with Jobe and Elevation Worship that became a Top Three Christian hit in 2020.

Carnes first started playing music as a child, and headed his first worship service as a teenager. Throughout his teens and early adulthood, he played with a number of bands, including Hit the Ground Running and Crimson Soul. He later became part of Gateway Church, which led him to a key role in the associated band Gateway Worship. There, he met his eventual wife, Kari Jobe. The pair frequently co-wrote songs together, including "Let the Heavens Open" on her acclaimed album Majestic. Carnes and Jobe released an EP called All He Says I Am in 2014. They married that year, relocated to Nashville, and had a son in 2016.

Carnes signed with Capitol CMG in February 2017, releasing "The Cross Has the Final Word" shortly afterward. By May, Newsboys reunited to record their own version of "The Cross Has the Final Word," and by the end of the summer Carnes also released the singles "Hold It All," "Til the End of Time," and "What Freedom Feels Like." His full-length solo debut, The Darker the Night/The Brighter the Morning, appeared in September 2017.

Carnes re-emerged in 2019 with songs from his March 2020 album Run to the Father, which featured writing collaborations with CCM artists including, among others, Matt Maher, Cory Asbury, and Kristian Stanfill. That same month, a song Carnes wrote with Jobe, Chris Brown, and Steven Furtick, "The Blessing," became the lead single from Elevation Worship's live album Graves into Gardens. Carnes and Jobe were also featured performers on the track. "The Blessing" went on to peak at number two on the Billboard Hot Christian Songs chart.

Los Lonely Boys
@House of Blues
Houston

Saturday 2/18/2023 7:00 PM

(From All Music.com-William Ruhlmann) Hailing from San Angelo, Texas, Los Lonely Boys are a sibling trio whose music draws equally from rock, blues, Tex-Mex, conjunto, and tejano. Such a combination is shaped by the band's three brothers: guitarist Henry Garza, bassist JoJo Garza, and drummer Ringo Garza, Jr. The siblings' father, Ringo Garza, Sr., was a member of another sibling band, the Falcones, who played conjunto music around Texas during the '70s and '80s. After that group broke up, Garza went solo, backed by his three sons even before they reached their teens. The family relocated to Nashville in the 1990s, and gradually the sons emerged as a group separate from their father.

After moving back to Texas, the boys recorded their debut album, 2003's Los Lonely Boys, at Willie Nelson's Pedernales studio in Austin with Nelson sitting in. Epic Records picked the album up for major-label distribution in March 2004, resulting in a high chart placement for the album's lead single, "Heaven," as well as a Grammy Award for Best Pop Performance the following year. The Boys released their eagerly awaited sophomore album, Sacred, in 2006, and Forgiven followed in 2008. A holiday album, Christmas Spirit (their last recording for Epic), also appeared in 2008, and the band hit the road for an acoustic tour one year later, punctuated by the release of the covers-only 1969 EP.

Though touring nearly constantly, the trio stayed deeply rooted to community causes. They recorded the single "Solid Ground," about the Family Justice Center of Erie County (which won the Austin-based CTK Foundation's Heart and Soul grant for 2009). The FJC provides services for victims of domestic violence. Written with poet Nancy Ghoston, "Solid Ground" was released in January of 2010.

During touring in the spring of 2010, JoJo Garza developed vocal problems. Physicians discovered lesions on his vocal cords and recommended that he rest them, causing the band to cancel its April and May appearances in the U.S., Canada, and Europe. Read more @All Music.com (Click Here)

Colter Wall
@713 Music Hall

Saturday 2/18/2023 8:00 PM

(From All Music.com-Mark Deming) Colter Wall specializes in singing songs designed to stir up ghosts of times that are gone. As he put it on his second album, he sings Songs of the Plains: cowboy songs, Western swing, and dusty ballads in the vein of Johnny Cash. Wall first gained attention in his native Canada, but Songs of the Plains expanded his audience into the United States, a position he consolidated with 2020's Western Swing & Waltzes and Other Punchy Songs.

Colter Wall was born and raised in Swift Current, Saskatchewan, in 1996. Wall first picked up the guitar when he was 12 years old, and by the time he was 13, he'd decided he wanted to make music his career. Initially, he played in local rock bands, but as he dug deeper into rock history, he developed an interest in the gritty, traditional sounds of blues and Appalachian country, and his ambitions moved from playing lead guitar to songwriting. In time, Wall shifted from playing with a rock band to solo gigs focusing on his country-accented material, and he struck up a friendship with the members of the Saskatchewan roots music outfit the Dead South, who took him on the road as their opening act.

Producer Jason Plumb and the indie label Young Mary's Record Company were struck by Wall's talent as a performer and songwriter, and took him into the studio to cut an EP. Released in 2015, Imaginary Appalachia earned enthusiastic reviews on both sides of the Canadian/U.S. border, and earned him some influential friends, including Lucinda Williams (who invited Wall to open a show for her at Nashville's Ryman Auditorium), Rick Rubin (who signed him to a publishing deal), and Steve Earle (who said "Colter Wall is bar none the best young singer/songwriter I've seen in 20 years"). Wall's first full-length album, a self-titled effort, was released in March 2017; produced by Dave Cobb, it was recorded in RCA's famed Studio A in Nashville. Read more @All Music.com (Click Here)

Los Tigres Del Norte
@Smart Financial Center

Saturday 2/18/ 2023 7:30 PM

(From All Music.com-Jason Birchmeier) Los Tigres del Norte are an internationally successful norteño group from Mexico based in California. Since the late 1960s, this family band has detailed the struggles and triumphs, romances, and heartbreaks of working people, families, immigrants, outlaws, politicians, and farmers. Over more than 70 albums -- including 22 number ones -- they turned norteño, an accordion-based polka music indigenous to Northern Mexico, into commercially viable pop music, infusing the tradition with boleros, cumbias, rock rhythms, waltzes, and sound effects. Their 1974 breakthrough single, "Contrabando y Traición," about a drug deal and love story gone bad, sold on both sides of the border, establishing them in the U.S. 1984's Jaula de Oro was their first chart-topper. The following year's A Ti Madrecita marked their first million-seller. 1989's Corridos Prohibidos kicked off the modern narcocorrido movement, paving the way for the 21st century's alterna-movimiento. 2011's MTV Unplugged is among the series' most successful volumes, and 2014's number one Realidades discussed the harsh realities of immigrants. In 2019, Los Tigres del Norte were the first musical act since Johnny Cash to film a concert at Folsom Prison. In 2021 they issued Y Su Palabra Es La Ley: Homenaje A Vicente Fernandez and followed it with La Reunion in 2022.

The group is centered on lead vocalist and accordionist Jorge Hernández (the oldest of 11 children), who is joined in Los Tigres by his brothers Hernán (bass, vocals), Eduardo (accordion, saxophone, bass, vocals), and Luis (bajo sexto, vocals) -- he replaced older brother Raul Hernandez who'd left to pursue a solo career during the 1990s -- and cousin, Oscar Lara (drums).

Their parents were campesinos, small farmers who worked the land with ox-drawn plows. The Hernandez family lived and worked in Rosa Morada, a tiny village located in the municipality of Mocorito in Sinaloa. Read more @All Music.com (Click Here)
